Betalbatim: INDIA Bloc candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes of the Congress on Monday pledged to protect Goa against destruction and assured that people power will prevail if the alliance comes to power at the centre. He said this t the corner meeting held at Betalbatim, on Monday,

Captain Viriato said that the BJP is trying to change the ethos of our Constitution. The country’s future will be in danger if the Constitution is changed.

“The prevailing situation indicates that there is a danger that people of this country may not witness elections in the near future. Be it agricultural land, tourism, mining – we are losing everything due to wrong policies ” Viritaro said. “Amendments are being proposed to convert agricultural land and hence in order to guarantee the future of the next generation there is a need to reject this government,” the INDIA Bloc candidate appealed to voters.

He said that Goa was not the part of India when the Constitution was implemented and hence it was important that the Goans benefited from dual citizenship.

“Goans will not sell out their houses and properties if dual citizenship is granted to the people of this State. We need to fight back to protect Goa,” he said.

Captain Viriato assured that Mormugao Port Authority will be reverted back as Mormugao Port Trust and will strive to retain the Dabolim airport, besides fight against projects that are destroying the identity of Goa. Adv Radharao Gracias in his address stated that for the first time Congress party has given a ticket to a perfect candidate.

He said that he is not Congressman but time has come to be united in order to protect Goa. There are doubts that elections will be held in the near future if the Narendra Modi government comes to power in the country.

Vote to save the Constitution: Capt Viriato

MORMUGAO: INDIA Bloc South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Captain Viriato Fernandes on Monday appealed to the people to vote in a manner that will save the Constitution of India.

Addressing a corner meeting in Mormugao Assembly segment, he said that the coming May 7 Lok Sabha election is not just about votes, but it is about the very survival of Goa, our future generation and our democracy.

He pointed out that Union minister Ananatkumar Hegde is on record saying that if the BJP wins more than 400 Lok Sabha seats, then they will “soon change the Constitution”.

“This gives enough indication of BJP’s plans to change the Preamble of the Constitution, which mentions the word ‘Secular’. We have to save it,” Capt Viriato said.

He further claimed that there would be silent voting and the people will repose their faith in the Congress party. “I’m receiving overwhelming response during my campaign,” he added.

CM used OCI issue for political gains: Goans for Goa
PANJIM: Citizens under the banner of Goans for Goa have expressed their happiness with the Ministry of External Affairs making it mandatory for Passport Issuing Authorities to issue a ‘revocation order’ which will be accepted in lieu of ‘Surrender Certificates’. They claimed that they have long been vocal about the need for a change in the policy, and their efforts have finally paid off. The acceptance of ‘revocation order’ as an alternative document will make the process of obtaining an OCI card much more accessible and convenient for many Goans.
However, while the citizens are pleased with the decision of the MEA, they have also taken the opportunity to criticize the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, accusing him of using the OCI passport issue for his political gains, especially ahead of the elections. They believe that this matter could have been resolved much earlier, but the CM chose to politicize it to benefit him and his party. Goans for Goa voiced it’s discontent with the CM, stating that it was insensitive and
opportunistic to use their struggle for political gains. They believe that this issue should have been resolved purely for the benefit of the citizens and not to fulfil any political agenda.
Moreover, the citizens have made it clear that the recent MEA circular is a result of their hard work and perseverance, and not due to any political influence. They have been actively advocating for this change for years, and their efforts have finally been recognized. The MEA’s decision to accept ‘revocation certificates’ is a testament to the undying spirit and determination of the residents of Goa.
